The Drakefield DRA07T is an advanced circuit tester, for testing a truck's ISO 7638 socket, trailer susie, and ABS functions. |
 |
Overview of the Drakefield DRA07T The Drakefield DRA07T advanced circuit tester, is simplicity itself to use. One end is plugged into the ISO 7638 socket on the truck's headboard, whilst the other end acts as a surrogate ISO 7638 socket, receiving the trailer susie (for two out of the three tests the unit performs). Set-up time is kept to a minimum, and the results, which can be easily interpreted, are provided by a series of LEDs on the side of the DRA07T unit. Further details on each of the three tests undertaken by the Drakefield DRA07T, are provided below. |

Testing a truck's ISO 7638 socket with the Drakefield DRA07T To test a truck's ISO 7638 socket, simply plug the Drakefield DRA07T unit into the ISO 7638 socket on the truck's headboard, as shown in Fig. 1 above, and switch on the ignition in the cab. All five LEDs on the side of the DRA07T should light-up GREEN. Note - if the ABS warning lamp is on in the cab, LED No. 5 on the side of the DRA07T will be RED. Fig. 5 below shows the LED numbering for the Drakefield DRA07T. |

Testing a trailer's ISO 7638 susie with the Drakefield DRA07T To test a trailer's ISO 7638 susie with the Drakefield DRA07T, connect the trailer susie to the ISO 7638 socket on the truck's headboard in the normal way, and then connect the Drakefield DRA07T unit into the other end of the trailer susie (as shown in Fig. 2 above). All five LEDs on the side of the DRA07T should light-up GREEN. Note - if the ABS warning lamp is on in the cab, LED No. 5 on the side of the DRA07T will be RED. Fig. 5 shows the LED numbering for the Drakefield DRA07T. |

Testing the ABS functions with the Drakefield DRA07T First, connect the Drakefield DRA07T unit to the ISO 7638 socket on the truck's headboard, and then connect one end of the trailer susie to the DRA07T, and the other to the ISO 7638 socket on the trailer headboard (as shown in Fig. 3 above). Drive the truck above 10kph, until the ABS warning light on the dashboard goes out. Stop the vehicle, apply the handbrake, and leave the ignition on. Check the DRA07T unit. All five LEDs should be lit-up GREEN. Note this test will also reveal a faulty or missing warning light bulb. |

How the Drakefield DRA07T works When the Drakefield DRA07T is connected to the ISO 7638 socket, it tests all the ISO 7638 pins against each other for live and earth (see Fig. 4 above for ISO 7638 Pin numbering). If, after turning the ignition on, LED numbers 1, 2 or 5 is GREEN, it means there is a good live connection above 19.5 volts. If, after turning the ignition on, LED numbers 3 or 4 is GREEN, it means there is a good earth connection, however, if LEDS 3 or 4 are RED, it means a bad earth connection. Fig. 5 below shows the LED numbering for the Drakefield DRA07T, and the table following, explains how the results should be interpreted. |

Drakefield DRA07T LED Fault Diagnosis |
LED 1 = GREEN = O.K. | LED 1 = RED = Below 19 volts |
LED 2 = GREEN = O.K. | LED 2 = RED = Below 19 volts |
LED 3 = GREEN = O.K. | LED 3 = RED = Bad or no earth |
LED 4 = GREEN = O.K. | LED 4 = RED = Below 19 volts |
LED 5 = GREEN = O.K. | LED 5 = RED = Below 19 volts |
NO LIGHTS = PINS 1, 2 and 5 dead, or PINS 3 and 4 no earth |
